Asheley started studying photography and developing her own black and white film and prints when in the fifth grade. Through elementary and high school she worked with a local photographer who taught her, critiqued her work, and let Asheley use her darkroom. After college, Asheley studied at the International Center of Photography in New York, New York and she interned with world renown, celebrity photographer George Holz. Asheley then continued her studies by taking the National Geographic Travel Photo Workshop at Maine Media Workshops. Afterward, she interned on a number of occasions for the late National Geographic Photographer, Theo Westenberger.
